Now our package supports separate document & imaging database on a separate hard disk. Now you can put your document & imaging database in a Terra byte (1 million Mega byte) hard disk. Most of the Terra byte hard disks (i.e. Fugitsu, Seagate) cost around $400.00. You can save approximately 100,000 high resolution colored pictures, X-rays, etc in one Terra byte hard disk.

You can archive the patients that their balance is zero and have had no other activity since a “Cutoff” date in a separate database. You can improve the performance of your system (i.e. reports) by archiving. It is very easy to switch between the main and the archived system.

Insurance Card Scanner - Thursday, September 13, 2007
Now you can scan insurance cards for primary, secondary and tertiary insurances. The insurance card images are also saved on all the archived insurances. Scanned insurance cards can be assigned to each patient or they can be saved in a holding area and assigned to each patient at a later time. We have had positive response about DS685 duplex card reader from Ambir (www.ambir.com).

CalMed’s clients have had good success submitting electronic claims to Office Ally and Medavant (Proxymed). Currently, Office Ally and Medavant do not charge for claims going to Blue Cross of California. A tutorial about setting up an Office Ally account can be viewed from your Practice Expert software by navigating to: File > Office Ally Menu > How to Register with Office Ally. You can Create Your Own PE Databases - Monday, September 10, 2007
In the past, when a biller would secure a contract with a new doctor, the biller would have to call CalMed to get a database created for the new doctors and CalMed had to charge for this service. With the new update to Practice Expert, you no longer need CalMed to create a new database. You can do it yourself in just a few minutes. CalMed has created an online tutorial that will guide you through the process. You can view this tutorial in the Practice Expert software by navigating to: File > Tutorials Menu > Update/Install Menu > How to Install a New Practice Expert Database.

When you post your ERA it will automatically writes off patient share if the followings are set: 1- The Medi-Cal and Podiatry write off parameter in the ERA parameter screen is set to “Y” 2- The patient has the coverage that starts with ‘MEDI/MEDI”. 3- Doctor specialty is “Podiatry” 4- “Maintain Separate Patient Ledger:” in patient registration is set to “Y”

CHDP Electronic Billing - Wednesday, July 27, 2005
We have implemented the CHDP electronic billing in the old electronic format (Medi-Cal is not currently accepting the ANSI format) . All offices can now transmit their CHDP claims electronically to Medi-Cal.
